The power of the Ecosystem

There has never been a more urgent need to revive damaged ecosystems than now. Ecosystems support all life on Earth. The healthier our ecosystems are, the healthier the planet-and its people.

Ecosystem has a lot of importances, some of them are the following:

  1. It provides habitat to wild plants and animals.
  2. It promotes various food chains and food webs.
  3. It controls essential ecological processes and promotes lives.
  4. Involved in the recycling of nutrients between biotic and abiotic components.
  5. It helps in maintaining the usual flow of energy in an ecosystem including- Carbon Cycle, Energy Cycle, Nitrogen Cycle,  Oxygen Cycle, and Water Cycle.

Apart from these importances, the ecosystem also plays an important role in controlling weeds, rotation of crop, management of grasslands, forests, biological surveys, conservation of soil, wildlife, etc.

Now our ecosystem and environment are not the same as before. Due to the exploitation of the environment by us, the balance of biological and physical systems has deteriorated. Such as indiscriminate deforestation, hunting of wild animals, pollution of air and water due to industrial development, an increase of global warming due to use of harmful equipment, and many other reasons are included. We have to make it the same again, otherwise, we will not be able to survive in such a growing imbalance.

To provide support to all lives on Earth, we need to cooperate together and unite as one. There’s a lot of activities that we can get involved to; like removing invasive species or collecting native seeds for planting, Repairing and replanting wetlands, creek beds, forestland, and other habitats. eradicating invasive species, replacing turf grass with native species. planting rain gardens to absorb rainwater running off roofs or asphalt.

It won’t be quick or easy, and it will take deep changes to everything from the way we measure economic progress to how we grow food and what we eat. But the beauty of ecosystem restoration is that it can happen at any scale – and everyone has a role to play.
